This project aims to develop a suite of software ‘games’ focusing on the individual Probationary Air Traffic Control Officer (PATCO) skills and providing customised skillset training based on the trainee’s needs. A particular focus of this project is the experimentation to confirm the extent of improvements in a range of PATCO’s skillsets.
A software system will be developed collaboratively with SAA to support the required assessment. It will leverage the initial game-based learning prototype developed by the ASI to:
- Mature the capability from an initial prototype to a system with comprehensive capabilities and addressing a range of skillsets.
- Support the implementation of the capability as a tailored part of the PATCO training curriculum at SAA.
- Evaluate the success of game-based learning for PATCO training, where success criteria are to be investigated with ASI and validated by SAA. Quantitative scores from benchmark game scenarios during workshops will be the primary assessment mechanism. Insights will be obtained that can be scaled to reuse in other training projects.
- Support SAA in extending and transitioning the software to full deployment through one of several possible deployment strategies.
